Financial Aid
Students accepted into the OSU Chinese Flagship Program will be eligible for support from the following sources.
1. University Fellowships. These highly competitive awards are made by the Graduate School to outstanding graduate students. Criteria include all admissions materials, including transcripts of previous coursework, Graduate Record Examination scores, letters of recommendation submitted on academic or business letterhead, an autobiographical statement, and recommendations from the Chinese Flagship Program. The application deadline for domestic students interested in applying for a fellowship is November 30. the deadline for international students applying for a fellowship is November 30.
2. Flagship Fellowships. The funding agency for the OSU Chinese Flagship Program, The Language Flagship, offers a limited number of fellowships to qualified American students interested in receiving full financial support to participate in one of the Flagship Programs. The Language Flagship is administered by the Institute of Internationa l Education (IIE) and requires a separate application due January 14, 2010. Further information about The Language Flagship and the fellowship application process is available at www.flagshipfellowships.org. These awards require US citizenship and a federal service commitment.
Beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year, NSEP is changing the eligibility requirements for Flagship Fellows. Eligible applicants for Flagship Fellowships must be enrolled in a Master’s degree granting Flagship program at the time of funding. This means that to receive an award, a student must provide evidence of admission to and enrollment in such a program. Flagship Fellows must remain enrolled in their graduate programs for the duration of their Fellowship funding period.
The new eligibility requirements for funding are:- U.S. citizenship at the time of application
- Minimum proficiency of Advanced Low (as defined by ACTFL) or level 2 (as defined by ILR) in the appropriate foreign language
- Minimum proficiency of Superior (as defined by ACTFL) or level 3 (as defined by ILR) in all modalities of English
- Completed undergraduate degree by the time the Flagship Program and Fellowship funding period begins
- Enrollment in a Master’s degree granting Flagship program
- Not employed by the U.S. government
Please note that in addition to this, NSEP is providing additional funding to the Boren Fellowship program to support graduate students who are eligible to study at an overseas Flagship Center. Applicants for Boren Fellowships must comply with all Boren guidelines including evidence of enrollment in an accredited, degree granting graduate program.
3. Funding by the Ohio State National Chinese Flagship Program. Tuition and living stipend support is available to qualified applicants. Qualifications include language proficiency, academic record, academic major, and work experience. Application for this funding will be accepted until Janunary 15, 2010.
4. Graduate Assistantships. Applicants seeking a Graduate Assistantship are advised to complete all application procedures by Janunary 15, 2010. Graduate Assistantships are normally awarded during Autumn quarter (typically during the last week of September) for the following academic year.
