Chinese Flagship Qingdao Overseas Programs
The Qingdao Center provides courses and programs that prepare Americans to successfully participate in Chinese work environments and to test at the highest levels of proficiency. The Qingdao Center does this by creating opportunities for students of Chinese language and culture to be directly engaged in Chinese society and providing the instructional support for successfully negotiating these engagements.
The Center does this through intensive summer courses and through internships that constitute part of the Chinese Flagship Capstone Year in China.
In addition to coursework focused on putting fundamental language and culture knowledge into practice, the summer program requires self-managed study and the willingness to work outside your comfort zone. Flagship students who have completed 1-3 years of Chinese study are encouraged to ask their local coordinators if a summer Qingdao program is right for them.*
For more information on summer programs, please click on Summer Language tab above.
The final stage of the Flagship experience is an internship where an individual American is placed in a job in a Chinese company, agency, or organization for 3-6 months. Flagship students who are ready for their capstone year should ask their coordinator to contact Qingdao Center director Professor Jian Xiaobin at jian.1@osu.edu for more information.
If your goal is the ability to function independently in Chinese society, you will succeed in and appreciate courses offered by the Qingdao Center.
*Alternatively, coordinators may also recommend a summer with ACC or IUP in Beijing.
