Flagship Scholarship

Scholarship Award Amount

Scholarships may provide up to $1500 each quarter for qualified students, depending on student qualifications and Federal funding. Due to the unique nature of the Chinese Flagship Program, scholarship awards are not processed before OSU tuition and fees are due. It is the student’s responsibility to pay all OSU tuition and fees on time. Any scholarship funds awarded will be deposited in the recipient’s university account.

Eligibility

Citizens and permanent residents of the United States that are admitted to the Undergraduate Chinese Flagship Program are automatically considered for scholarship funds.

Scholarship eligibility is reviewed quarterly to ensure that students continue to:

  1. Have a declared non-language undergraduate major
  2. Make progress toward completing the capstone year in China, three domain tutorial courses and at least three Flagship classes.
  3. Enroll in 5 or more credits of Chinese language class each quarter during the academic year.
  4. Maintain a cumulative 3.4 GPA overall and in Chinese courses

Special consideration will be given to incoming freshmen who place out of OSU Chinese 101-103 or above. Applicants without previous Chinese language study are encouraged to complete OSU’s Summer Programs in East Asian Concentration (SPEAC, http://deall.osu.edu/speac). This 9-week program covers Chinese 101-103.

Award Criteria

Awards are based on overall GPA, Chinese class GPA, experience studying in China, and participation in voluntary extracurricular activities using the Chinese language.

Notes: Scholarship monies may be used toward any fees incurred toward studying at The OSU Chinese Flagship Undergraduate Program including, but not limited to, tuition, fees, books, etc. Students with past military service who are eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill are eligible for additional funding at the Ohio State University through the Ohio GI Promise
